Design is all around (english version)

He think that design is all around. Because everything has a second life. Sander Lucas put together dishes, cups, forks and creates lamps, vases, chandeliers. Between possible and incredible...

Describe yourself shortly (with three or four adjectives)

Perfectionist,  stubborn,  realist but also a dreamer.

What is design for you?

Design is everywhere   and that is wonderful., surrounded with all these objectsts/designs arround me and that inspires me to create  and  surprise people with my designs.

When did you decide you want to become a designer?

When I was 11, this was my first awerness  of the thing called design.

I really started proffessional after my study I finished in 2002.

What are your favourite designer and/or artists?

Studio Job, Charles  and Ray Eames,  Banksy, Mies van der  Rohe

What are your source of inspiration?

My inspiration is just on the street, all my ideas started with something I found at the garbage or just some where  outside

Tell me something about your first exhibition...

My first exhibition was a month  before my exam at the design academy.

We squad a building because we didn’t had eenoog space to create new designs. We had the idea  to show everyone what ewe where doing there.

This was  the first time I showed my work to the public and it was a big succes..

Where do you live and work?

I life and work in Amsterdam, my studio is right on the water, wonderful view  of al big boats passing by. Inside my studio I have  all the space  so I can work there on my first prototypes

I thing that irony is a very important aspect in your products. Could you tell me something more about this?

What I hope to achieve is that people are going to watch on a different way to object/products. For instance my candleholder;  first people  see a burning candle and they think what  I nice candleholder and then they think I kow these object! And then  you see just the plate and fork. This twist in your mind is really important in my work.

In a certain way your products seem pieces of contemporary art. (I am thinking – for example – about Atelier Van Lieshout projects and installations). What do you thing about this?

I agree on that and that is nice to hear. I think art and design are still more woven in to each other . My goal is to surprise people and if I design a chair and you can’t sit on it I don’t mind. For me it’s about the message not always about the function.

What are your next projects?

One of my most passioneel thing is to creat a setting (chair, table, walls etc.) exsist just about coiffeurs. A whole world built of coiffeurs.

What is - within your realized projects - the one that you love in a special way?

That’s really easy  and that’s the candleholder. I’m really  surprised how many people are interesten and that’s the perfect way to introduce people  with my work and hopefully they are  more openminded to all my other work.

Where can I buy your objects?

My object are sold in different stores in The Netherlands and also on a online website; www.bijzondermooi.com

Imagine that you are not a designer. What are you doing now?

That’s a really difficult question,  but I think I would have a normal office job and  not knowing what iI was missing.
